Privacy Policy
The short version: On the website, your progress stays in your own browser and we don't collect anything about you: no accounts, cookies, ads or tracking. In Discord, we store your Discord ID, display name and your daily results (including your guesses) so your server's lists and leaderboard work. Daily results and guesses are deleted automatically after 7 days; only leaderboard totals and streaks are kept. If you tip us on Ko-fi, Ko-fi handles the payment and we never see your card details. We never sell your information. Email us and we'll delete your data.
1. Who we are
Spell It Daily (the "Game") is made and run by the creator known as lvl99drgnslyr ("we", "us"). Questions or requests: spellitdaily.game@gmail.com. This policy explains what information the Game handles and why. It works together with our Terms of Service.
2. Playing on the website
- Saved in your browser only. Your daily results, streaks, stats, level, sound and voice settings, and any half-typed spelling are saved in your browser's local storage on your device. They are not sent to us. Clearing your browser data deletes them.
- No accounts, cookies, ads or analytics. The website doesn't use tracking cookies, advertising, or analytics services. If we ever add privacy-friendly visit counting, we'll update this policy first.
- Hosting logs. The Game is hosted by Netlify. Like any website host, Netlify automatically processes basic technical information (such as your IP address, browser type and the pages or files requested) to deliver the site and keep it secure. We don't use this to identify you.
- Browser voices. If you pick one of your browser's own voices instead of the recorded voice, your browser or device reads the word aloud using its own speech service, under that company's privacy terms.
- Our old addresses. If you visit spellingbeedaily.netlify.app or spellitdaily.netlify.app in a browser, that page moves your saved progress to spellitdaily.com inside the link itself (the part after "#"), which browsers don't send to any server.
3. Playing in Discord
When you open the Spell It Daily Activity, Discord asks you to authorize the Game. With your permission, Discord shares:
- Your identity (the "identify" permission): your Discord user ID, username and display name. Discord also shares your avatar, which we don't store.
- Your server list (the "guilds" permission): used only at the moment you play, to check that you belong to the server whose lists you're viewing. We don't store your server list.
- Activity status: lets the Game show what you're playing on your profile, for example "Hard · Puzzle #3". It never includes the word.
When you use the bot's commands (/spell, /leaderboard, /setup) or its buttons, Discord sends us your user ID, display name, the server and channel you used it in, your permissions in that server, and anything you type into the bot, such as your spelling guesses.
Discord sign-in tokens are used only to confirm who you are while you play. We don't save them.
4. What we store for Discord play
To run the "Today in this server" lists, leaderboards, bot games and daily posts, we store the following on Netlify's servers, kept separately for each Discord server (or chat):
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your Discord user ID and display name | To show who played and to keep your scores together |
| For each day: which levels you finished, how many tries you took, whether you got it, and your guesses | For the server's daily list, and so players who finished the same word can see each other's attempts (deleted after 7 days) |
| Totals: games played, wins, current and best streak | For the server leaderboard |
| Your guesses in a bot game | So /spell remembers your tries (deleted after 7 days) |
| Server settings chosen with /setup: the announcement channel, time zone and last post date | To post "Puzzle #N is live" once a day in the right place |
| Daily totals (how many people played, in how many servers and chats) and the date each server or chat first played. Counts only, with no names or user IDs. | So we can see how the Game is growing |
5. Who can see it
- Members of a Discord server can see that server's lists and leaderboard, including your display name and results.
- Your guesses for a word are shown only to members of that server who have also finished the same word that day.
- The bot may post your result in the channel where you played, for example "spelled today's Hard word in 2/3". These posts never include the word or your guesses.
- Your results in one server aren't shown in another server.
6. What we don't do
We don't sell or rent your information, use it for advertising, or share it with anyone except the services that run the Game (Netlify for hosting and storage, Discord for the Discord features, Ko-fi for tips), or when the law requires it.
7. How long we keep it
- Daily records: 7 days. Each day's list of who played, your tries and your guesses, and any bot game you started are deleted automatically once they're more than 7 days old.
- Leaderboard totals and streaks: your Discord user ID, display name, games played, wins, and current and best streak are kept while the Game is running, so the leaderboard keeps working.
- Server settings from /setup are kept until the server changes them or the Game shuts down.
- Daily totals: kept for 90 days. The list of server and chat IDs that have played, with the date each first played, is kept while the Game is running.
If the Game shuts down, we'll delete everything. You can ask us to delete your data at any time.
8. Your choices and rights
- Delete your data: email spellitdaily.game@gmail.com with your Discord username (and the server, if you only want one removed). We'll delete your entries from the lists and leaderboards.
- Stop sharing with the Game: remove Spell It Daily under Discord's User Settings › Authorized Apps.
- Website data: clear your browser's site data for spellitdaily.com (and spellitdaily.netlify.app, if you played there before the move).
- Depending on where you live, you may have other rights, such as asking for a copy of your data or correcting it. Email us and we'll help.
9. Children
The website collects no personal information from anyone. The Discord features are for people who meet Discord's minimum age. If you believe we've stored Discord information about a child under 13, email us and we'll delete it.
10. Security and location
The Game uses encrypted connections (HTTPS), checks that every bot request really comes from Discord, and keeps its keys in protected settings. No system is perfectly secure, though. Our servers are run by Netlify, and your information may be processed in the United States.
11. Tips through Ko-fi
If you choose to tip us at ko-fi.com/spellitdaily, the payment is handled by Ko-fi and its payment providers (such as Stripe or PayPal) under their own terms and privacy policies. We never see your card or bank details. Ko-fi shares with us the name and email address you give it, the amount, and any message you write. We use these only to thank you, keep records (including for taxes), and reply if you contact us. Tips aren't linked to your game progress or your Discord account.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the effective date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we'll mention it in the Game.
